Theraputic Snowman

I made this little snowman as a gift for
a special person in my life.

The snowman was inspired by the super
creative Sue Pelletier and featured in the
Nov/Dec 2008 Cloth-Paper-Scissors magazine.

Merry Christmas From Chicago!

Parade photo from 1951!

Every year, from the time we were little babies, the day after Thanksgiving, my 2 younger sisters, my mom, my grandmother and my aunt and I used to bundle up and take the Southshore train into Chicago to go to Marshall Field's downtown store. We would tell Santa what we wanted for Christmas and then have a special lunch in the Walnut Room. My favorite was baked corned beef hash, the best in the whole world!

It was and will always be a magical time!

We miss you Marshall Fields!

Christmas Ornament Swap

I re-purposed jar candle lids to create these faux-globe ornaments for an art swap.
They are filled with faux snow and silver German glass glitter and each have a tiny vintage bottle brush tree. Vintage images of girls from LisasAlteredArt.com

Cantigny (Can Tee Nee) Park

This is the view from my booth to the main park walkway.
The park itself is gorgeous and the event held many activities for all ages!

I was able to meet "Madeline"...she did a story hour for the smaller kids and even the older "kids" got in on the meet and greet! I was also able to meet some local artists who I know will become kindred spirits.

Practicing our booth setup...

And believe it or not...we forgot to take pictures of our booth in action! However there was another French moment...an encounter with a mime I won't soon forget...

GODDESS ART DOLLS TRAVEL TO RUSSIA

Mimsies goddess dolls are making their way to Russia as I
post. A commissioned project was asked of me by a friend of my sister's and here
are the results. These are really a joy to create. I have others that are not
personalized with titles like: Princess, Goddess, Your Highness, etc. just
really fun! Enjoy!

YOU ARE NEVER ALONE

This seems to be the theme of my day. I received an email from my sister with the quote:

"Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle"

So when you think some small crappy thing happens to you, like not making it through the stop light or someone taking your parking place or your bra is fitting just way too tight or you actually have to walk into a Starbucks because it isn't a drive-thru...stop and think of the people with real problems and crisis and stop and give thanks to God for the blessings you have RIGHT NOW!!

60th BIRTHDAY ART DOLL

This doll was commissioned to celebrate a milestone birthday! I started out with a basic large fairy doll kit. I dove into my ever expanding bits and baubles to find the perfect things to capture this woman's personality and spirit.
The quote used is one of my favorites.

"Age is something that doesn't matter unless you are a cheese"

COMFORT

The smell of Vicks VapoRub made her think of her mother
and how good a hug would feel right now!

Stressing...say a little prayer

I would first like to welcome you my new blog! This is very exciting for me!! I have been a graphic designer for almost 15 years and I just have to say that building this blog is really giving me a rash! I have also been a website designer so this is particularly frustrating. Why can't I just whip one up and love the way it looks automatically? So for my first post i'm going to bring things back to a more serene level by sharing this prayer:

Saint Theresa's Prayer

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received,
and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be confident knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into your bones,
and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.

Even if you are not having a particularly challenging moment, this prayer is always a blessing to have on hand.
